I live in New Braunfels, and I also have planted Tatume from Baker Creek Seeds. I have 4 plants in 2 different beds. I have already harvested 5 good-sized squash, and have lots more ripening. Tonight I cooked some up for the first time…….kind-of an experiment, but boy was it yummy! I took 3 Tatume, 2 very small yellow squash and an apple and cut them into small bite-sized pieces. Threw them into a baking dish with a generous dollop of butter and some nutmeg and a bit of brown sugar and then crushed up some spiced pecans & threw them on top before baking. Absolutely grand! I really like the taste of these Tatume, and they really are growing like weeds. They will root along the vine as well, and start a whole new plant – probably another reason they fare better than other squashes with regard to the SVB. I have found 2 SVB larvae on these, and the little buggers didn’t get very far in the vine, was able to pull them out with a toothpick (fed them to the chickens), and the vine recovered in record time. This little jewel will be a staple in my future gardens!
